Obuasi Anglo Gold mine has been accused of water and land pollution for years. In 2014 the mine closed down in order to reestructure and become more efficiente, but nothing was said about the liabilities from contamination. In 2018, it will reopen.
In Ghana, the company developed the Edikan Gold Mine, where it has been able to produce about 200,000 oZ of Gold annualy since the year 2012. When looking at the mining companies in Ghana and their locations, Perseus has two mine locations, that is Grumesa and Edikan Gold Mine.
The mine, known as the Chirano gold mine, was an open pit operation located about 21 kilometers (km) to the south of AngloGold Ashanti''s Bibiani gold mine in western Ghana. The Chirano gold mine produced 941 kilograms (kg) (reported as 30,247 troy ounces) in 2005 and was owned by Red Back; the government had the option to exercise its right to back into a 10% ownership in CGML.
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is currently on a journey to redevelop the Obuasi Gold Mine into a modern, efficient and longterm profitable operation. The underground mining operation will be fully mechanized, designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.
History. AngloGold Ashanti was formed on 26 April 2004, after the High Court of Ghana approved the merger of AngloGold and the Ashanti Goldfields Corporation three days earlier. AngoGold had been a gold mining company based in South Africa, majorityowned by the Anglo American group. This came almost a year after the merger was announced on 16 May 2003.
AKYEM MINE. Akyem Mine is an openpit gold mine located in Birim North District in the Eastern region of Ghana, the seventh biggest gold producing country in the world. The mine is whollyowned and operated by Tarkwa Mine Corporation, and commenced production in October 2013.

AngloGold Ashantis Obuasi gold mine is located in the Ashanti region of Ghana, 200 km northwest of Accra. It was acquired by AngloGold following a merger with Ashanti Goldfields in 2004. Falling gold prices in 2013 overtook hit restructuring efforts and in 2014 underground production was suspended rather than operate at a loss.

The mineral concessions of the deposit are located approximately 80km southwest of Kumasi, the capital city of Ashanti Region. Feasibility study of the gold project was completed in June 2016, and the second phase of resource drilling started in December 2016.
Anglogold Ashanti is involved in the exploration, development, and mining of gold. The new company is a result of merger between Ashanti Goldfields and AngloGold. Its operation is in Ghana called the Obuasi, Iduapriem and Bibiani mines, which together produced 680,000 ounces of attributable gold in 2005, at total cash cost of 339 per ounce.
